CTRA....2 ?!?!

INFO :

CT_RaidAssist 2 -- That's right, 2. We are developing a far more advanced, far more customizable, far more efficient, and far upgraded version of the most used mod for World of Warcraft. CTRA2 is nearing Beta and is looking great so far. The level of customization will appeal not only to users who want a different look or feel to the mod, but to designers as we have made it so easy to change, you will be able to create a skin that meets your needs. The options window has been completely changed, rearranged, and should be much easier to sort through now. The mod is much, much more efficient as it is a 100% recode, everything done from scratch, not using original CTRA code at all. Other additions and changes we have made will be there for you to see in Beta or once it is released, but suffice to say, it is and will be a great mod. -TS

Sounds kinda interesting!

I guess they got a bit scared by RDX5/6. One wonders whether they will be trying to sell this, like the RDX folks are.

We shall see.

Trying to sell a mod that can't be encrypted or protected in any way is like trying to collect water with a sieve.

We'll see. They have a pretty particular customer base in mind, the type that is loathe to give anyone else anything because they are racing for the next big kill. I think it seems like a pretty terrible idea, but micropayments for services like this have been tried many times, with varying degrees of success. /shrug

To be honest, I've been surprised as hell that the CT team (all 2 or 3 of them) haven't thought about something like this. The time to do it is when the raiding community is hooked on the mod like the crack it isSmiler

Then again, they probably collect more with paypal donations, than they would if they shut the doors and enforced paid downloads.

I don't think I'd ever pay for a mod.

I do try my best to donate to great services, though, like CTProfiles.

Which makes me kinda curious what their "new website" might be.

Yeah, the same kind of group that will buy one copy and then distribute it out to their entire guild before the next big raid. Wink Anything that might even possibly be "required" for a guild to do will probably be freely distributed by that guild's leadership to maintain their advantage.

I'm betting a Guild progress/reporting system. Imagine a system that synched with CTRaid tracker, tracking kills and loot drops/winners.

If it became prevalent enough, it could be used to provide faction/server/world first kill reporting, as well as trickshots like Onyxia 10mans.

The RDX people started out on the server that my main is on (Eredar) and is somehow encrypted. A guy who's toon is named "Mastashake" paid some chinese guys to crack the mod and tossed it around for free, causing a big stir on the Eredar forums a while back.

They fail to mention as their ideas gain acceptance Bliz will fold them into the current product like they just did with SCT and Self Cast ;-)

No kidding...look at the raid UI enhancements added by blizz over the last months. The only basic** thing that CTRA brings to the table, is MT displays and gear reporting (durability/resistances). You could almost eliminate CTRA itself and just use the BossMod.

**Yeah, I know CTRA has built in basic decursive and emergency monitor stuff, but those are more class specific options.

And the boss mods are increasingly garbage, better off with Natur's enemy cast bars for basically all purposes except whispering the person who's got the plague.
