So.. I was running around doing quests around the Chamber of the Crossroads, and I figured I'd go vendor and do some turn-ins. So I hopped off my ram - and ran to the quest giver, right through the middle of the room... and as such.. well. Well. A few days prior to that someone asked me if I had had the deed yet, but I was convinced it was some super exploration deed for exploring everything everywhere. :>

Like I said: it IS survivable. Be going SW when you run into the well. When you come out, I think you need to be facing NE (away from the nearest structure) and just start pushing forward.

I missed out on the last title at 19 because of oodles of respawn and adds... but the only one I'd use from that sequence is "the indomitable." Mostly I use the cheese title.

Anyhow, take your time leveling... lots of good story stuff you outlevel too fast.

That said, the graphics otherwise seem pretty awesome and the background lore is pretty sweet, even if the in-game quests don't seem to build on proper lore of the world. I'm looking forward to slowly playing it over time :)

The ability to pick up and put down at will without a sub is attractive. I took the advice posted elsewhere around here and picked up a moria box. With that, giveaways (hit their booth at conventions), lotteries, point discounts, ocd, and insomnia, you end up unlocking more than you'd think (I ended up with one of every class, as tends to happen to me in character builders). Still, I'd term it an a la carte pricing model rather than free. Happens to work for me since I wouldn't have tried it at all if it was still a subscription only model. Can see where the store bit would be distasteful at best for others.

Check out their expansion coming soon! $50 for:

•All three Rohirrim Style Mounts with a blanket & emblem in the colours of green, red and white
•All three sets of matching cosmetic Rohirrim Style armour in the colours of green, red and white
•An in-game title - Guard of the Isen
•Access to the Path of the Fellowship Quest Packs including Trollshaws, Eregion, Lothlórien and Moria plus the Mirkwood Quest Pack as a special bonus
•1,000 Turbine Points for use in the LOTRO Store

Pre-Purchase Bonuses
•A 25% XP Boost for all characters on your account that will last up to level 65
•All three cosmetic cloaks that match the colour of your armour and mount

Considering how much they charge for a 25% XP Boost for ONE character, doing the pre-purchase now makes some great sense. Especially since I only have Moria and none of the other quest packs.

I played LotRO back last fall and really enjoyed myself until I stopped when Cata was released. You guys are making me want to pick it back up again.

Yeah, actually, as a 1-time $50 expense, Isengard looks like it gives you a hell of a lot as a pre-order. You'd have the quest packs for zones that cover 48-65, plus the stuff going into Dunland.

So these quest packs are the previous expansions? e.g. Buy this, and you'll have everything out for LotRO?

Quest packs are not directly analagous to expansions - I believe moria consisted of what is now the moria and loth quest packs. Trollshaws and eregion are both pre-moria zones, and the mirk expansion also included a skirmish cap now sold separately. That said, you'd probably only need evendim and forochel (could skip forochel perhaps, but it is pretty), and then... enedwaith? Not sure about endgame since I'm nowhere near.

mmorsel has some good resources, but they are no longer updating.

The Moria and Mirkwood 'packs' are the previous expansions, yes.

Basically, how it works is: You get the starter zones up to level 20 gratis. You also get the entire epic quest chain through all of the zones for Volume I: The Shadows of Angmar, for free. (Vol I, Books 1-16)

If you want all of the quests that aren't part of the epic chain in the zones after level 20, those cost turbine points - which you can get by achieving goals in-game, or by purchasing. Once unlocked, they're unlocked on all characters.

Moria and Mirkwood, as expansions, include all of the content, Epic Chain and otherwise, for those expansions. Eregion, Lothlórien and Moria, are the contents of the Moria expac. Mirkwood's content was Mirkwood itself.

The Epic Quest chain in Moria, Nanduhirion/Lothlorien and Mirkwood together forms Volume II: The Mines of Moria.

From there, the Epic Chain moves back west of the Mountains into Volume III: Allies of the King, which follows the Ride of the Grey Company, and begins with you, having traveled many of the lands of Eriador in Vol I, riding the length and breadth of your level 1-50 stomping grounds to gather up the Rangers to ride to Aragorn's aid in Rohan.

Obviously, come September, we will be getting the first entry into Rohan with Rise of Isengard - the fords and Isengard itself both sit inside Rohan.

Unfortunately, there are a few sacrifices made to 'it's a game, dammit', already - for one, the assault on Dol Guldur and the foray into Mirkwood take place in April, just after the fall of Sauron. The assault depicted in the game is a feint, mind you, but in the canon Tale of Years, Lothlorien is on the defensive at this point, pushing back 3 separate assaults.

As well, the game divides into differing zones 'Eregion/Hollin', Enedwaith, and Dunland, where really, there should be significant overlap. But, you know... game, so...

It's not like any RP in the game has to pay attention to zone borders, after all!

Not really sure why you'd want to pay $50 for a few shinies that you can also get for your $30 pre-order, and a bunch of turbine points.. I got the cheapest version, giggled happily that my low level alts no longer have to ride a mount with 100 health, but have been upped to 200, plus, it's much prettier than the toothpaste mount that the store sells sometimes. :x

(ps: the new cosmetic armour is so huge it makes even the tiniest characters look like wrestlers. But I love the boots/chest/gloves!)

My question for you as you seem pretty knowledgable is this. If I wanted to just pick up the game and play casually, what is the best bang for the buck (content + extras wise). This would just be used for when I dont feel like playing WoW. Definately would be slow-going and wouldnt need high level stuff for a while I would imagine.

Because we wants all 3 mounts, Precious, we wants them!

And, as a lifetime subscriber, I do like to toss them the full 50 now that I can afford it, since I basically get everything else free. >.>

Best bang for your buck would be the core Free to Play game, and do all of the Deeds you can - basically, the achievements. There's some in every zone, as well as class, racial, social, epic-chain... there's a LOT of deeds.

Every time you complete a deed (including things like 'don't die before level 20'), you get turbine points. use them to unlock the zone quest packs in the zones after Bree-land (starting with the Lone-Lands) that you'll be going through on the Epic stuff.

If you use 'em to open up additional character slots, then you've got more characters to earn turbine points on (through, again, those deeds), and each zone you pick up is unlocked on all the characters.

Also: enter the lotteries. The lottery system is down right now while the EU servers are being integrated (the EU servers were being administered by a 3rd party, they've recently been brought into the same administration structure as the US servers), but basically, there's lotteries, they cost nothing to enter, you can enter them w/every character all the time, and you can win free stuff, including points.

Things you will want to spend turbine points on (or maybe buy a single month of VIP to start off the subscription): Bag space.

If you run out of bag space and bank space (and you will), remember that you can, of course, us the mail as emergency bank space. You'll eventually want the shared storage space, too, but for going slow and just relaxing, probably not right away.
