Kicking off this discussion in case 3.0.8 hits today, but it's relevant even if the patch is delayed. The patch notes have some changes that may impact how resto shamans are best used in raids. I'm wondering if our "raid healer" vs "main tank healer" role may change. Aurahn has been healing 25-mans with Night Watch. I'm usually assigned to raid healing. Here's my general spell rotation: 1) Earth Shield the "most important" person, anyone whose death = raid wipe. Usually a tank or off-tank. 2) Chain Heal spam if a clustered group is taking damage. 3) Riptide, then LHW or HW if one person is taking damage. 4) If there's no raid damage, I pop heals on the tanks to proc talents (the armor buff, Earthliving, etc.) and trinkets, and keep Earth Shield refreshed. 3.0.8 changes include: a) Earth Shield will finally use *my* healing crit rather than the recipient's healing crit. This should make the talent even more useful for keeping tanks alive. b) Healing Way is revamped. No more having to stack with multiple casts. c) Circle of Healing (priestly talent) is being subjected to a cooldown. This may make it more difficult for priests to perform raid healing, shaman Chain Heal might be more in demand. Comments? Are these changes significant enough to call for any change to shaman healing tactics, or do you think we should just keeping doing whatever we're doing now? --

In my spec I gave up healing wave when I hit 80, so no change for me there. (Mostly gave it up because my charter AoE's everything therefore I am chaining folks more than not and didn't have time to stack it and for the few times I do use healing waves it wasn't worth it) ES the change is awsome but doesn't really change rotations or playstyle, it just improves the one you already use. Priests new cooldown on chains will make your current healing rotations more important to the group as a whole. Again it doesn't change anything per-say just makes us more needed in aoe healing were best at already. The ES change will be nice. Not having to stack healing way may actually make it worth using points on now. The change for priests makes me sad, especially for fights like Malegos. I really think Druids will be the new ubah aoe healing class with Shammy's comming in second. *cries* I want an AoE insta (without a 3 min cooldown) Though Shammies are better now then they were at tank healing, unless in a 5 man or 10 man with only 2 healers, it isn't the best use for a shammy in raids. I think we will still have our 'group heals' assignments for a long time to come. With Disc priests and Druids HoT lovin on tanks we just don't stack up to their ability on single target assignments. (though I am happy they made us more viable in 5 mans to keep the tanks up.) By no means am I saying we cannot (i solo healed patchwerk for the 1st 55% a few weeks ago with no tank or Ot deaths lol) just that when there are other better options for tank heals we are more suited to heal the raid with our chain heal goodness that is faster and smarter than we are with who needs the heals more. --

Looks like resto is getting a lot of loving coming up in 3.2. Chain Heal: Jump distance increased to 10 yards. In addition, the amount of healing now decreases by 40% as it jumps to each new target, instead of 50%. # Restoration * Ancestral Healing: The buff from this ability now reduces the physical damage taken by the target by 3/7/10% instead of increasing the target's armor. * Cure Poison and Cure Disease: Combined into a single spell, Cure Toxins. * Earth Shield: Dispel effects will now remove charges of Earth Shield rather than the entire aura. * Healing Way: Redesigned. Rather than providing a chance of increasing Healing Wave spells on a friendly target, this talent now innately increases the effectiveness of the shaman's Healing Wave by 8/16/25%. * Mana Tide Totem: Totem health now equal to 10% of the shaman's health. * Nature's Guardian: Redesigned. Now has a fixed 100% proc rate, has a 30-second internal cooldown and increases the shaman's maximum health by 3/6/9/12/15% for 10 seconds. * Nature's Swiftness: Cooldown is now 2 minutes, down from 3 minutes. * Tidal Waves: No longer reduces the cast time of Lesser Healing Wave by 30%. It instead now provides +25% critical strike chance to Lesser Healing Wave, along with the previous 30% cast time benefit to Healing Wave. * Improved Water Shield: This talent now has a 10/20/30% chance to be triggered by Chain Heal, and the charges of Water Shield are no longer consumed by this talent. And all of this is on top of the totem bar. Shamans might be making a come back all across the board. Of course the PTR still likely has a lot to go before things are finalized, but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. |

Blizzard pushed the Resto Shaman into haste with Wrath of the Lich King. Now they are making Shamans into viable tank healers. The latest changes are obvious on the tier pieces and talents. Our chain heal gets haste through tier bonuses, which are also high on Crit. Our talents are moving to proc mostly on Crit and are buffed by Intellect. Move away from haste with the tier 8/8.5, and start stacking Intellect and Crit. Just a suggestion. The trinkets available are MP5, Crit, Haste boosters. Having a problem with any of these areas, use trinkets to balance to your needs. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Silver+Hand&n=Draewind |

I am pretty sure that you will not find many (if any) better restoration shaman players than Draewind! He rocks! Yo.oY --
