So, I bought a Linksys WRT310N (it's a wireless gigabit router), and I can't get it to start broadcasting wirelessly at all. Anyone have experience with these routers and could nudge me in the right direction? --

Wireless and gaming? Well, at least Hordies won't have to worry about Kav's DPS anymore. :P

Maybe it's broadcasting using N and your PC's adapter only supports a/b/g?

My adapter is ABGN + BT, and I've used it with an N network before. Not even my Wii can detect the network, it's just not broadcasting.

If it's a router that can go wireless and wired I wouldnt be surprised if it factory defaults to wireless disabled. Linksys had problems before with their default settings not being the best for security on other routers in the past. People would take their router home, plug it in and tinker enough to get online, not realizing that the default settings let their neighbors surf on their signal and rifle their hard drives. You may have to turn on the wireless functions for just that reason. |

The wireless is turned on (as far as I can tell), I have security enabled, I changed the default admin password, and I have it set to broadcast SSID. Yet I still can't see it.

Is it plugged in? :D I know, silly question but must ask. Did you install the antennae or is it hard mounted? Is the router near the pc or vice versa? Intervening walls might be blocking the signal. It sees NO signal at all? Not even a weak signal? Definately ensure the wireless part is turned on in the command line gui. It just might be disabled. Make sure router and computer wireless card are on the same frequency/channel. Make sure your wireless card in the pc is turned on/enabled. Any more help I'd have to charge you. :P |

It's plugged in. 2. It has no antenna sticking out, it's built-in. 3. The router is no further then 5 feet away from either laptop. 4. The router doesn't come up as an access point *at all*. 5. Wireless is automatically turned on when the router is turned on. You actually have to turn it *off*. 6. On same frequency, as far as I can tell. 7. Wireless card is turned on and enabled. --

Linksys setup. Linksys Poor/No signal. Hope those help you a bit more. *edit* BTW, any cordless phones, microwaves, or speakers nearby? These devices can throw out signals that interfere with a wireless router's signal...though honestly I think you'd get *some* kind of signal at least. *edit part deux* Router setup with cable modem. Your mileage will vary of course. |

*sigh* I'm out of ideas at this point then...might be time to call Linksys tech support or consider that maybe this is a defective unit. Anyone else have suggestions? |

Odd that the wireless portion wouldn't work, but it would otherwise work fine. I'm gonna return it to Best Buy and get a new one.
