Patch 3.0 +heal and KZ

I leveled my shaman as an elemental/resto hybrid with the intent to respec resto after hitting 70. Most of my gear was elemental and I was working to gather a full healing set.

Now that 3.0 changed healing stats and gear, I wonder whether my current gear is good enough to start healing KZ. I'm wearing mostly blues plus an epic helmet.

Any opinions on how much +heal is adequate for starting KZ? I think I'm at +505 after the patch.

In 2.4 I heard 1400 was kindof a minimum. Let's assume that with the 3.0 nerfs that would've gone down to 1200.

Teardrop Crimson spinels dropped from 22 healing to 12 spell power, I think. Or were they in fact 23? The odd number is what's in my memory, but seems weird.

So anyway, applying that ratio to 1200 gives about 625 spell power. The other issue is that you'll be gimped on Mp5. But with gobs of crit and imp water shield, I'd be curious to see how the mana bar did.

But good lord, the way my last two raids have gone, I say if you know how to play a resto shammie you're good to go.

All opinion, of course.

OK, so here's my embarrassing stupid question. I know healing was replaced by spellpower, and that healers get more bang for buck, when it comes to the effect of +spellpower on heals, etc, etc, etc... I'm cool with it, and know my healer was slightly undergeared anyways, but my heals hit for the same amount roughly, so the world is cool as far as the change in the stat.

On the character sheet, it still breaks down Spellpower and Healing separately. When I want to find out my effective Healing, am I simply adding those two numbers together? I'm specced such that I get no specific increase to +Healing as a stat, so the two numbers are the same. That would, to me, be the easy way, and I can't see Blizzard keeping the Character page categories out of date, if the numbers aren't seperated for a reason. If they really wanted to get us off the idea of +healing gear, I would assume they'd get rid of the listing on the character sheet completely.

I read somewhere that the conversion is roughly 1 spell power to 1.8 of the old healing value. Not sure if that is 100% accurate so take it for what it is.

Edit: I will add though that the instances have been nerfed beyond all resonability so the old baseline values can probably be tossed out the window.

The raw numbers all seem lower...but on both my tree and holy pally I am putting out WAY more healing.

Try out a heroic and see how easy that is for you, that may give you some kind of gauge.

TLDR Version:
Amy is pretty on. Try out a heroic. There are no accurate baselines just yet.

Don't forget the basics of shaman healing:
T4/5: Crit > Spellpower > MP5
T6: Haste > Crit > Spellpower > mp5

Extended Version:
As far as numbers, the conversion is 1.6 x spell power. There are still two fields, damage and healing, because some of us have effects that change one or the other. When my mage was arcane, she had a talent that only boosted damage. When my druid is in tree form, she gets a boost only to healing. These two fields now reflect this boost.

Everyone's number have gone up insofar as healing meters are concerned. Part of this is the change to mechanics. Healers that didn't have AOE heals now do, for instance. As another example, healers that didn't have HoTs now do, too.

If you run meters, you'll notice that everyone's HPS has sky rocketed along with DPS. I was in a raid this weekend in which one of the healers was pushing out 2000k+ HPS.

Coupled with these changes are the nerfs to instances. All instance. It's unfortunate, in some ways, that there's not currently a hard base-line for entering these places. Give us a few weeks and we'll have accurate numbers for you :P Although, AFAIK, EJ is waiting until after release for in-depth research.

Thanks for the comments.

I had already run some heroics without issues. Also, that +500 healing power I mentioned was before self buffs like Earthliving Weapon and Flametongue Totem.

After talking to raid leads and learning that the other healer was wearing T6 gear, I took the plunge and visited KZ over the weekend. My problems weren't gear related, but rather learning how to heal my first 10-man. In all my prior 5-mans I was able to heal with simple macros. For KZ I started using Grid and Clique addons.

I picked up 5 epics that no one else even tried to roll for. Hooray for being the only chainmail clad caster in the group!

And mana was not an issue, bosses died before I ever had to pop a mana potion.

huge grats :)

Welcome to LO, here are your epics. :P

Also, you'll find another SWIFT change in the transition from 10p to 25p raids. :) Fun all around!

My brother found even before the patch that with a geared tank you can heal KZ with around 1k healing as a shaman. So I'd say between 500-600 spellpower should be fine, everything is so easymode now anyways.

< 1 hr kara clears ftw.
