Ready for Winter |
I know this is bad of me to say (in that it's completely non-helpful) but I agree with all these people in one way or another. :P There's no substitute for experience, and knowing your class theory. But mods do help. I had some small problems scaling to 25 man before I started using clique (I'm a clique/grid person currently). I'd also suggest be.imba.hu, though it's more of a "suggestion" on where you'd be ok. As for 25 man frustrations? The worst I've seen is Leotheras, Vashj was fine. But healing the warlock tank at the end, when you're one of two people, is one of the least fun things I can think of (even with rolling hots/swiftmends + some regrowth spam.) --

Saying that, some of my favorite/amazing healers I know use the screen hogging devices :p I guess it comes down to how much information you want on your screen, and does all that stuff actually help your healing. Once upon a time, my partner told me to try heal mods, as she used to be a healer back in the day. I was resistant at first, but I am SO glad I tried them....been using PRaid and Clique the whole time, so don't think i'll ever switch. Good luck, let us know what you decide on and how it works out :) LOL Mazzie @ screen hogging :P I use Healbot, someone suggested it to me (ok Phry suggested it) for months. I healed modless thru SSC and most of TK. I i thought using mods were cheating pffft) I saw a big difference when I finally gave in and went with Healbot. IMO the best part about it is seeing range and health in one easily clickable area. The fights I noticed te biggest difference on was Karathress (interupting and keeping the tank alive) and on Alar/Vashj simply because there was soooo much going on in those fights. Now that I am healing BT, Hyjal, and timed ZA runs I don't know how I could do it all without a mod to help. I guess I would say no matter which you choose some type of mod will increase your performance, and your ability to pay attention to environmental damage ect. Whack-A-Mole AND staying alive, takes practice. --

You know, people bring up a really good point. I keep forgetting I'm not the only Old School healer here :P *rocks in her chair and starts to point at you with a shaky cane* Back in MY day I had to target a player with my mouse and then click the heal button and while that heal was being cast I would target someone else. Then there was the unpredictable tab targetting :P I literally healed all of MC and BWL this way and didn't discover the Blizzard raid frames until AQ40 and Naxx. Let Me Tell You about SCREEN HOGGING :P My WoW life consisted of staring at 40 player boxes and anticipating who to click next and PRAY they were in range :P Having completed both AQ40 and Naxx I can honestly tell you I've never actually seen them :P I do have horrible flashbacks of a screen COVERED in Blizzard Raid UI and Every One of my hotbar buttons was a variation of a heal macro to either heal myself, the tank, or something :P Ah how we've come a long way since then. :) Mods can either really mess up your game or really help your game, it's up to you. It's one of the reasons it's important to check things out before jumping in. If Grid isn't your thing, don't worry, next Kara DL Perfect Raid. If that doesn't work, next Mags have X-Perl running, etc and so on. :) For Druids and Shaman at the moment, I *highly* recommend using clique because we have enough spells to fill a standard mouse without having to have too many binds. Sometimes in the heat of battle you can't quite remember if you bound that spell you're needing to cast to CTRL or ALT or SHFT :P The expansion will change this... we're getting more "tree spells." I've countered this by ordering a new mouse with 6 buttons so I can still bind everything to one key :P But don't think you have to use clique. I know another particular tree that has all her heals on the keyboard and clicks players first, then pushes the appropriate button on her keyboard. There are lots of options for ya, take what feels right. :) --

*raises hand* All my heals are just on a key on the keyboard. :) I started healing in EQ when macros were not even an option. I was crashtest trained by one of our warriors in Lower Guk. If he said run- you could bet he had 15 mobs in tow. He also taught me mana management that way *grins* I can't type with more than 4 fingers but I can touch type 4 bars worth of spells :P |

A thread in the druid forum has sparked me back to here. After spending some time with rawr and on the EJ forum tree thread, I'm back with a little more in the way of questions. The EJ thread talks about two methods of gemming, the balanced approach and the max throughput approach http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t17783-druid_raiding_tree/ Whether to load up entirely on teardrop rubies and as many purified shadow pearls as I can find or go for the balanced approach listed under the Gems section is the first dilemma. The next dilemma is that using the Rawr gear simulator which has been so helpful to me with it's feral version it tends to give me confusing gemmings, pure spirit gems in places, ignoring socket bonuses even though with some light shifting they can be retained, like that. Didn't log in my gear, but: Crown of Malorne Shattered Sun Pendant of Restoration ]Forest Wind Shoulderpads Stonebough Jerkin Life-step Belt Earthsoul Leggings Forestlord Striders Bracers of the White Stag Mitts of the Treemender Jade Ring of the Everliving Witches Band Oshu'gun Relic Heavenly Inspiration Apexis Cloak Shard of the Virtuous Windcaller's Orb Idol of the Raven Goddess Also options Idol of the Emerald Queen Aran's Soothing Sapphire Got all my enchants done but the spellthread, and have to do gems. Spirit to chest, healing to hands wrist and weapon, boar's speed, aldor shoulder, healing head, blah blah. Anyone got any good advice on the gemming, other than lots of teardrop living rubies and the insightful meta? Still haven't switched over yet, but that's just because my raiding schedule's a little in flux. Am I on the right track? |
