I've hit 375 LW and started to farm for the Ebon Netherscale set. The mats are brutal though. With the expansion coming, I wonder if its going to be worth it or if I should settle for Felstalker? Considering the cost of the mats it doesn't look to be much of an upgrade.

Once you get to the point of refining epics, every little bit helps. It really does. Maybe my raid just pushes thing a little too close, but we've had an awful lot of kills as the boss was rampaging through the DPSers. And as the hunter, you're going to be one of the last to go down. Plus, when you have the better gear, you don't have to spend money re-gemming and re-chanting stuff, and you can even feel good about dropping epic gems in. --

Ok. First, let's make some baseline gemming assumptions: Red Slot: +10 Agi Yellow Slot: +10 Crit Blue Slot: +5 Agi, +7 Stam If anyone has gemming preference otherwise, fire away. ;) Using those gems, and a +6 Stats enchantment, the stats on the two items are: Felstalker BP: 11 Stam (Gems, ench, Socket Bonus) 57 Agi* (BM), 58.14 Agi* (MM), 65.55 Agi* (SV) (Including gems) 32 Int* (BM/SV), 33.92 Int* (MM) +AP Rating: 52 Total Crit %: 1.438 (BM), 1.467 (MM), 1.654 (SV) Total Attack Power: 109 (BM), 125.40 (MM), 117.55 (SV) Ebon Netherscale BP: 45 Stam (including gems, ench) 20 Agi* (BM), 20.4 Agi* (MM), 23 Agi* (SV) (including gems, ench, socket) 29 Int* (BM/SV), 30 Int* (MM) +AP Rating: 80 +Crit Strike Rating: 41 +Mana: 8 mana per 5 seconds Total Crit %: 2.362 (BM), 2.372 (MM), 2.438 (SV) Total Attack Power: 100 (BM), 114.23 (MM), 103 (SV) So, the breakdown: Beastmaster: Felstalker - 37 more raw agi, 9 more total AP, 3 more int. Ebon Netherscale - 34 more stam, .924% higher crit rate, 8 mp5 Marksman: Felstalker - 38 more raw agi, 9 more total AP, 3 more int. Ebon Netherscale - 34 more stam, .905% higher crit rate, 8 mp5 Suvivalist: Felstalker - 42 more raw agi, 14 more total AP, 3 more int. Ebon Netherscale - 34 more stam, .784% higher crit, 8 mp5. So, there you have it. Right now the question is: What do you need more? Attack Power, or crit, stamina/health, and mana regen? All in all, you're losing 30 mana, and less than 15 AP to gain more staying power (both in health and mana regen) and a higher crit rate. How much that's worth to you... is your call. * ALREADY INCLUDED IN CRITICAL % TOTALS AND ATTACK POWER TOTALS. --

I can't see gemming with epics being that useful; if one is worried about the price of primal shadows then the cost of epic gems is probably far past -- and badges spent on gems is a terrible trade to badges spent on epics. Obviously, just bring down the numbers by 2 each, but just a thought.

A good point. It depends on what the availability of gems is for you. I know that in my guild, for example, we've got some epic gems in the vault if people need them. But YMMV, so... Orbea, how are you looking at gemming the two BPs?

Also, it's worth ignoring Ebon NS's terrible socket colors and going straight full Agi. 2xBlue is not very appealing, especially when the armor's already decently statted in stamina and MP5.

That, I'm not at all sure about. The yellow socket begs for +crit anyway, and you're only gaining (with 2 +10 agi gems instead of 2 +5 agi, +7 stam) 6 agility, while losing 14 stamina. If you're using lesser gems, it's of even less benefit. Using blues, it's 16 agility from gems v 12 agility, 12 stam from gems and socket bonus.

Indeed I'm broke and I'll probably socket with rare gems. I'm still gemming for hit as well. But just looking at that stat breakdown (thanks btw) I'm leaning towards Felstalker. I'm really surprised at how little you gain with the Netherscale considering how much more it costs to make. You would almost have to consider Felstalker even if it wasn't cheaper. And of course WotLK is right around the corner... Thanks for the replies.

Epic gems are easy if you do a lot of heroics and kz. All it takes is 15 badges a piece. It doesn't take long to gem out your gear.

I'm going to point out, that it would be better served to pick up the rare/epic drops and badge items which are good for hunters than use the badges for gems. Especially in the debate between felstalker and ebon netherscale... edit: To get 6 epic gems to fill the sockets in felstalker it would take 90 badges, which is almost enough for a pair of pants. --

When one has nothing more to spend badges on then one is happy to spend them on gems :-p They were just collecting dust in my bank so I figured hell, thats a good use for them!
