Why, you ask? Because I've been trying to improve my gear, and doing alright at it. Had some good drops for rings, hands, and waist. Made my own goggles, got the T4 helm, and bought bracers and a totem. So, that leaves me looking for chest and shoulders. In my case, especially shoulders. Ok, no problem. Keep running KZ/Gruul's/Mags and hope to win a drop and save up Badges. I'm getting close to enough badges, so let's go see what shoulders are available. G'eras has a set of shoulders for a healer and a set for a boomkin. Feh! Save more badges and go to Isle d'Oriens. Look up the smith's offerings; no shoulders at all! SonofaSleestak! Er, am I ranting? Well, that's ok, since I hear my ranting gets raves. ;> --

There's no feral badge shoulders because the 'T5 equivalent leather melee dps shoulders acquirable outside of standard T5 instances' drop off Halazzi in ZA (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=33300) instead. :-P It's just the way Blizz worked out the sets, a few pieces are meant to be available as badge rewards so they're 'guaranteed' in a sense, but to maintain some loot-based motivation for progression the rest of these 'sets' drop in their equivalent raid zones (I believe feral shoulders are also a sunwell plateau drop since they aren't available for badges)... Personally I'd recommend holding out for your T4 shoulders, just keep hitting gruul's runs up, and at 3 tokens a week it shouldn't take too long for you to pick up a pair. They're solid for tanking and one of your better options to use for your 2-pc T4 set bonus for kitty gear, especially if you've got your engi goggles. As far as a chestpiece upgrade goes, both the sunwell badge chest and S3 chest (S4 if you can hit 1600 rating) are good pieces and relatively easy to obtain -- maybe put the badges you would have spent on shoulders toward that new chest. :-) Hang in there, the upgrades will come eventually....hope this helps. :-) -Az |

It's ok, I was just venting a touch. :> When I discovered this, I just figured I'd have to keep grinding for the T4 ones, and that the badges would go for the the Sunwell chest. (Or possible the staff, if I win the T4 chest in the meantime.) Once I get a second T4 piece, then I think I'll start signing up for ZA raids. My DPS set might be good enough, but I know my tanking gear needs some help. --

I'd recommend Shadowprowler's Chestguard + Badge Staff over the Badge Chest and any other staff you'd be using (at least for building a DPS set). That staff is really nice.... |

That staff is really nice.... Hmm....Craftable is good. Expensive mats...I've got about a third of them, already. It would be pure DPS, tho. I was thinking the T4 or Sunwell chests would be able to do double-duty, replacing my Jerkin of the Untamed Spirit and the Heavy Clefthoof Vest... That staff is very drool-worthy. I got pretty lucky with a world-drop of the Staff of Natural Fury, so it's not high on my list of to-be-replaced quite yet. --

That staff is really nice.... Yeah forgot to mention that I was thinking for dual-purpose on the badge chest (the feral one, not the rogue one)....for strict dps shadowprowler's is very good, and I can craft it for you if you decide you need it done. ;-) The main advantage in the shadowprowler's chestguard is the 2 extra sockets for extra flexibility over embrace of everlasting prowess, as well as a better socket bonus (for DPS); SPC gives 4 agil for socket bonus and EoEP gives 3 stam for socket bonus (meh, but it's a red socket so you should be getting that bonus regardless)...with the gem-holes filled, overall each piece will have the following advantages: SPC (socket bonus): 12 hit, 3 agil EoEP: 20 haste, 8 str, 36 stam SPC (8 agil x 3): 12 hit, 7 agil EoEP: 20 haste, 8 str, 40 stam This is assuming the standard blue-quality gems (delicate living ruby, shifting nightseye, glinting noble topaz)...personally EoEP is better given my current gear, since I'm already hit capped and the haste+str is going to give me more than the 7 agil due to omen of clarity and 2 pc T4.... so tl;dr = az talks a lot, just use rawr and see what it recommends based on your current gear, remembering to fiddle with buffs and how items are socketed (the standard gear list always grabs the socket bonus). :-) (right now it shows for me S3 ~= EoEP > armor ignore chest from ZA (my current chest) > shadowprowler's, your mileage may vary) -Az |

Honestly, its probably better to build up a 'pure' tanking set and a 'pure' dps set. There will be cross overs but to min/max yourself its better to go seperate gear for both.

Yeah, I'm lazy and use Emmerald. It takes a lot less time and seems to give a decent ballpark figure for hard kitty scratchin and rawrbear tankin. Emmerald is a pretty huge fan of the badge staff for both cat and bear. 78 stam and the dodge from 52 agi is nothing to sneeze at. At the same time, Emmerald would recommend the badge chest + earthwarden over the badge staff and heavy clefthoof for tanking. If tanking is going to be your main focus, you may want to go that route. |

I was under the impression that there were some good shoulders that you could get from the Chest in KZ?

The S2 shoulders also aren't bad for tanking.

Fenrys: I agree, but right now, I think I will get everything up to about T4 level, and then go for more complete, pure sets. Getting either the T4 chest or the Embrace of Everlasting Prowess would make for good chests for a pure tanking set, and will be significant improvements for my DPS set for now as well. Paks: Thanks for the offer. :> I will keep it in mind. Azshadell: I'm starting to think that I will slot the Shadowprowler's as for having crafted if I get the T4 chest. Rawr lists the EoEP as better than Shadowprowler's for both DPS and tanking, so if I get that before the chest drops, then I'll wait for something T5 level or above. Kavanaugh: Yah, there are. Those, the MgT ones, and the T4 ones are improvements over The Dreamer's Shoulderpads I have. My complaint stemmed primarily from there being healer/caster shoulders available from a vendor, but not feral ones. Chielah: If I PvPd more, that would be a better option. :> --

So, after all that, I get into Outsider's Gruul's/Mags run tonight as a standby, and my loot rolls just won't stop. Got the T4 legs and chest. Whoo hoo! So, I guess I need to start saving those mats for Shadowprowler's now. :> --
