I have been using a Ravager for a pet for a while now. But I have been thinking about getting a Windserpent. any thought or comments on using/upgrading to a serpent?

they're awesome, and ~80dps higher than a ravager with around 30-35% crit. that being said. unless you're eating +hit food, you're better off with a ravager until you're hit capped (142). I'd pick up animal handler with a WS, due do the pet +hit, as it's currently the only way to have them miss less. --

Yeah, unless you can count on having an Oomkin on every raid, either bring +hit food, or swap in a neck (the Worgen Claw from KZ, for example) w/+hit on it, to make sure you and the pet aren't losing damage to misses. But as far as pet selection goes... the Wind Serpent has a MASSIVE advantage over the ravager. Wind Serpents eat bread. So they'll eat the conjured stuff, saving you coin. ;) Hell, a wind serpent can devour an entire mage table on a bad night! --

Wind serpents are great. I just switched to one, and I'm having fun with it. It's especially nice to have it be able to just run up, LB, and come back without getting to close to things that whirlwind, etc. I had him casting LB through all of VR last night, I don't think he took any damage at all. --

The ones in netherstorm are the EASIEST cause they're close to the right level already. The best are in feralas or the awesome red or green ones in bladesedge. The rare in feralas is pretty nice. |

I thought Windserpents were best with 30% crit? If its just hit cap I think Illisan is gonna have to go snake hunting :)

you need to have the stats (and spec) to make it worth it. lightning breath (henceforth referred to as LB) takes 50 energy. and is bound (for best results) to a macro that includes some sort of shot rotation. The ideal stats: Hit capped (142 for BM hunters and something like 126 for drenai BM hunters.. see hit rating page on WoWWiki for all other specs) Have 30% crit and 2k RAP or higher Have Animal Handler Talent (pet hit) Have both energy regeneration talents for pets. While RAP has no effect on your pet, you're gimping your other stats if you're taking all crit gear. If you're not hit capped with a Windserpent, you're going to be substantially lowering your DPS due to the cost of LB. --
