That's a wicked build. I might borrow that one instead. :P Although I admit to a love of AM.

Thanks for posting.

I will probably switch back to pure frost (0/0/61) to start, and then respec once I start raiding again. Much like with TBC, I'll probably only run instances as many times as I need to in order to clear quests.

Based on what's coming out of the Beta, I don't expect to be using any new gear until about level 75, and will probably still use some of my current gear through until 80.

*sigh* I am a little behind in reading Elitist Jerks but came across something that Lhivera had said:

As mentioned upthread, this won't work, because Fingers of Frost is a buff, not a debuff, and is consumed on cast, not on hit. In order for it to work as Karaa described, it has to be timed, not charged. Someone with Beta access should post a thread with a very clear topic such as "Fingers of Frost does not allow Shatter combos" and explain this, because his post implies pretty strongly that it's intended result is different from its actual result. A very short duration (like 3 seconds) without charges would do the trick.

Has anyone on Beta had a chance to test this? If it is true, then what is the use of FoF then. Shatter combos are the only reason to even think about having a boss with freeze effect. I am really getting disappointed with how at least the frost mages are turning out. I hope that frostfire builds are fun.

Once nice change is that the WE now gives back mana. Now only if I can keep the damn thing alive.

Another good change to FoF, they have two charges on it instead of one. Might make grabbing Deep Freeze worth it.

Probably like the blade master ability from War3. They'll cast spells etc, just won't do any actual damage. I'm noticing they've been working to add more and more of the War3 hero abilities into the game. Still waiting on a brilliance arua. =)

I've yet to meet a shadow priest that gives me 950 MP5 while casting like I had in MH last night. Maybe with better regen at 80 and higher DPS Shadow Priests but I doubt it ;-p

Shadow priest is not the same as brilliance arua. Maybe for you where you get to do whatever you're doing and the spriest is pumping mana into you. And if that's all the issue is, it's fine. We're working on Kalegos and I don't need to mana pot at all... hell don't even need to shadowfiend most of the time. But brilliance arua is double spirit... like Jiana in Hyjal does. Expecially because of the spirit -> dmg or healing tallents in ALL 3 TREES for priests. I know Plato would club baby seals if it would get him a brilliance arua.

this is it for a winner!
The ":P" face means "I'm serious about this statement, you should probably prove me wrong".

On topic, a hot topic seems to be Frost/Fire elementalist, to take advantage of the fact that Frostfire Bolt gains from basically every mage talent in the game ever.

Except Empowered Arcane Missiles.

Couple of popular variants include deeper fire for some more AOE capability and Hot Streak, which can be set up for a double crit like Combustion, or a Water Elemental build to capitalize on cooldown timers.

Thoughts on Frostfire Bolt specs?

The Frostfire bolt build will be my second option for Kaeble and I am hoping to set up a combo build to use the frostfire bolt as well as my frostbolt. I need to mess with the calculator more.

I'm playing with fire spec on the mage on the Beta. Amazing stuff. Impact procs frequently, and it's just the .. bomb.. to gather up a group of 71/72s, cast living bomb on a mob, then do a dragonsbreath/flamestrike/blastwave combo.

Oh crap. We are getting a nurf based on what Kalgan said today.

http://pc.ign.com/articles/901/901065p1.html

I am posting part of the conversation but the scary part of the article for mages.

Chilton went on to describe some of the tuning they're doing on high-level talents. "One thing that we've found is that some of the talents aren't as usable as we'd like them to be. [Mages] have their 51 point talents in all the different trees are like living bombs of fire tree, deep freeze tree, the arcane barrage for the arcane tree, and we're going to be massaging a lot of those. We're doing some of our early DPS testing and we're finding that the class does way more damage than we anticipated it would do like by a factor of two. So we'll be looking into why that's happening and making some adjustments based on that. And that's the case with a lot of different classes. We have some work to do on the shaman, we have some work to do on warlocks and warriors, so there's a lot of stuff to be done to get it into final shipping condition."

This reminds me of the jaw dropping comment he made before TBC. Look what it did. Gave us the 10% coefficient damage nurf. Wow I am afraid for WotLK mage changes. Is the damage that good in the new expansion?

Agreed K.

Stormie - any comments from Beta or have you not got to 80 raiding yet?
