Yeah, it really seems like the goal is to make raids LESS dependent on shadow priests. Vampiric Touch in WotLK will return only 40% of the mana it does now; an increase in shadow priest dps may partially offset the nerf, but nowhere near completely.

Possibly, but keep in mind they also added group mana return from several other sources, including disc priests, some hunters, etc. |

Arcane Blast still has the increased mana cost associated with stacks; mana will still be a primary issue for AB spam.

I was thinking staying fire/arcane like this: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents2.html?tal=2300252001023010000000000000001550020123030310531223003500000000000000000000000000000 or going full arcane like this: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents2.html?tal=2353252331023015332312250135100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 i really want a key so i can test them out but i gotta wait for the opt-ins to be called :( |

Frostbolt is no longer binary. It can have partial resists now. I hope they remove the -5% coefficient penalty that they have on it since we didn't have the partial resist. I am really not liking the direction that frost is taking. I hope that the WE gets the same type of resistance that warlock pets are getting. I am really tired of losing my WE early in a fight then I lose alot of dps. I keep harping on this point but its a weakness that needs to be fixed. I think that FFB will be what I spec for. A little bit of good news though, sounds like you will only need 9% hit will be needed rather than 16% it is now. Can someone on beta confirm this? Edit: Not sure what their reasoning to move elemental precision to tier 2. Why require fire to get more in the frost tree if they don't want it? Also don't like the move to impact in the fire tree either. I hate the first tier stuff now. Useless if I go elemental spec. --
This had to be my new sig: New and exciting 51 Mage talents! Arcane Garbage, Living Bomb, and Deep Shit. |

Probably because they are chasing IV if they are in the frost tree so it isnt that bad. It is the same net point effect to get IV. Interesting quote from Koraa who appears to be Blizzard's WotLK Mage Designer poster: "That said, again, we do want Fire to be a strong single target DPS spec along with Frost and Arcane. Frost is not intended to be the Mages "PvP spec" and Fire isn't intended to be the "PvE spec," they only turned out that way because of unintended factors. We're trying to make Frost more viable in raiding by allowing you to effectively freeze the target without having to nova it, allowing you to throw in some "shatter combos" in your rotation. Arcane, Frost, and Fire (and a mix thereof) should all more or less be viable in as many aspects of the game as possible. Where they should be different is in playstyle and gameplay differences (stacking Scorch vs. freezing and shatter etc.)." |

They just updated the talent calc again, and it looks like Living Bomb is going to be a lot like Baron Geddon's bomb now... ... That's gonna be hard to avoid specing into at least for a while to mess around with =P |

Interesting warlock changes - they've made Nether Protection from 'Don't have this' for any sort of warlock tanking to 'Gotta have this'. I approve. And the way that they're working Fire & Brimstone and Backdraft to make Conflagrate wanted... it's a good change, but it's not quite there yet. Here's what I'm thinking. 0/20/51 <-- Click meh! --

This is really annoying because as it is now, I would get 5/5 ice shards for when I was farming so I could get high ice lance crits. In wotlk I won't be able to get 5/5 because of elemental precision being moved to tier 2. As for what I'm going to spec as, I'm not sure yet. |

Oh man they moved World in Flames to tier 2? That plus Spell Impact = +6% dmg and + 6% crit for Arcane Explosion (and Blast Wave if you're a pyro). Hrm, maybe I won't go 71 Arcane after all...*ponders* And the Impact tooltip on the WoW Wrath talent calculators is reading as 'gives your damaging spells...' although the wotlk.wowhead.com still says it only affects fire spells... Hasted AB spam + 10% stun proc anyone? ^_^ Edit: Here's my 1st pass at a possible arc / fire build. I had to avoid the AM talents, although its certainly possible to include them by omitting some of the defensive talents (which I tend to rely on but ymmv). |
