GD's been dropping Al'ar for a couple weeks now, but it ain't exactly a clean process yet. I'd like to get different charters' takes SPECIFICALLY on how they deliver the adds to the add tank in phase 2. Hunters shoot them? Everyone shoots them? Pally tank healing? How do you keep these things off of the healers and get them to the pally tank? |

More DPS than your raid combined! |
If I remember right, NW had 2 tanks on Alar and 2 with adds, paladin main, and a retrieval tank (any class). Retrieval tank scoops what he can and brings 'em to the main paladin. --

Holy Paladin with Righteous Fury can help collect adds off of the clothies. If it's a problem, having them drop a rank 1 Consecrate or having a shaman drop Stoneclaw totem may help collect them. From there, Ranged Taunt or a shield toss is usually good. Ranged DPS can continue to fire on Al'ar until the adds are in the Consecrate. If they're close to pulling aggro, switching targets to the other add should be fine. If you're hunter heavy, or if your tanks are inferior warrior models, try an MD rotation -- or just having a hunter shoot from the wall and FD. I have seen some impressive Intercept->Intervene antics from warriors to pick up loose adds. If you have a feral druid tanking, Feral Charge one and FF the other seems to work sometimes. I have no personal experience with this, but maybe shifting out and Moonfiring an add too? This might be prohibitively mana-expensive. |

Hunters grab aggro when they spawn and pull them to the tank where the tank then taunts off said hunter, easy basic and pretty much foolproof as long as your healers are aware that they need to heal the hunter occasionally as well :) Cheers, E --

Oh Phase 2... pretty much the same idea except setup a MD rotation on the add tank. Cast MD on the tank and then hit this macro: /target Ember /cast Multi-Shot As soon as the bird drops, standstill and hit this macro, will MD BOTH adds to the same tank. Note the adds spawn before Alar himself so you have a second or two to hit the adds before Alar pops :) Cheers, E --

DB&F went with the healing aggro option ourselves, parked a Paladin against the backwall and strapped a few bird feeders onto him. Tanks could usually get the adds on the way to him since they had a fairly clear path they were taking and then move em off to kill zones. Not to say feral charge and intercept aren't good too :) Also doesn't hurt if one tank get's both briefly if they happen to be near while the other comes over to grab it | |

Okay, so I thought adds pickups were actually pretty good this week. The main issue we had was constant (and I do mean CONSTANT) tank disconnects. So, bleh. BUT there is one more thing that I'm still having trouble with, and that's picking up Al'ar at the start of phase 2. I'll take any advice from other tanks that they'd care to share. You can't just stand in the middle and pick him up, because he'll blast you away when he appears. You can't have the raid spread out and charge in, because before you can charge, he charges at LEAST one dps and kills them, if not two. You can't group up on the tank and just pick him up when he charges, because if you do that then he just sits there and does flame buffet. How the hell do you pick this bastard up without letting him kill someone first? |

Hatred Incarnate (OL) |
If i remember correctly he goes for the highest aggro from phase 1, since he does not drop aggro during transition. Have the first tank stand just outside of knockback radius, the highest DPS from phase 1 should be standing with him. This can be dictated in phase 1 by having a warlock or shadow priest without salvation during phase 1. Lastly have the raid spread out on only one side of the room, not the whole room. If to many pools of fire are on that side of the room have them shift to the other side of the room. A little rough on the healers for about 10 seconds, but worth it to prevent people from dying in the pools of fire. --

Drop salv.... yes, of course. It's all becoming clearer now. Okay, so last question. What is his blast radius when he first appears in p2? Is it the same as it is when he appears after a dive bomb? I might just be standing too far away. |

Paladin tank (40 yard taunt ftw) with a hunter (with no salv) as a partner (this makes it easier on the paladin, because there's a higher chance the hunter will a) have aggro and b) be in taunt range). Add tank watches for meteor to land, and shields the two adds right as they spawn. Also, as one of the main tanks I will occasionally help round up birds if needed (especially if I have Melt Armor, since I can't otherwise tank). --

We've always gotten adds down by using a pally with RF up and no salv. Pulls the adds down really quickly for easy pickup. For transition into P2 we have a lock (or sometimes hunter) with no salv on P1 go balls to the wall throughout P1, he gets all the aggro he possibly can. In P2, he stands way the hell back and we have a warrior intervene him and Al'ar charges him and that warrior taunts, taking all the aggro. Shatter/FD give that DPSer salv and the entire raid will never catch up in threat. Alternatively, you can use a pally 40 yard taunt if a prot pally is available. Which was spotty for us, hence why we came up with the above method. --
