What's a Nerubian? |
So there I am, standing at the Stormwind mailbox with my level 1 banker, going through my mail. My mail window disappears and I notice I'm dead. I scroll up through my combat log and find that I, along with about a dozen other people, were killed by a fire nova totem dropped by an alliance shaman. Let's call him Doopington. This isn't a "wah, Doopington $#!+ in my cereal" thread - there are plenty of those on the official forums. My question for you shammies is...game-mechanics wise, how'd he do it? It's bugging me. --

Drop a totem and then logout immediately while it is still neutral and not Alliance flagged. When the guy logs out it doesn't get flagged as Alliance ever and it goes and has some fun.

This same topic came up today on one of my other WoW forums. Apparently, if the shaman places the totem then logs out, it turns neutral. Some shamans are using it to grief, others to kill off those level 1 gold spammers. Either way, Blizz temp banning reported offenders and a hotfix is supposedly in the works (though given how long the snake trap thing went on, I'll believe that when I see it).

Yeah... if there's a way to kill friendly level ones my bet is somebody will find it... Remember the pally bombs recently? Let's face it: some people get bored and mess with others at random (like the flagged horde on npc's issue at QD). --

I know Doop does it often and has done it for a LONG time, even back to when I was in Unos over 8 months ago. The thing is for all his offenses they have actually been pretty lenient. I always expected him to draw a perma-ban at some point and he never did. Last I heard they may have forced a name change on him which is silly because that just basically clears the rep he had earned. Now that the way it is done has become more public a lot more people have been doing it and maybe now it finally matters more to Blizzard. I must admit using it to off Gold Spammers is a bit of a chuckle. -Satyri |
