I have a prot warrior that is about to hit 70 and I am curious as to what type of numbers do I want before considering trying to tank in KZ? At the moment he is 69 with 10k unbuffed health, 490ish def with roughly 11% dodge, 15% pairy, 15% block, and a little over 10k armor. So again I am just wondering what I need to look into raising the most, and if people know of craftable items, or heroics I can do to get the gear I need that would be a lot of help. Oh, and he is engineer so I have the tanking helm and the gnomish pultragizer. | |

What's a Nerubian? |
The engineering tank goggles are the best helm you'll get for a long time, so no worries there. IMO, here are the baselines you want to hit: 1) Getting your defense above 490 so you're uncrittable 2) Getting your health up a bit, to 12k or so 3) Getting your armor up a bit, to 12k or so Here are a couple of things I'd look for: 1) If you're not revered with keepers of time yet, run a bunch of Black Morasses. (Morassi?) Timekeeper's Leggings with 3 Solid Stars of Elune are the best pants until midway through Karazhan (unless you go for badge pants first). Also, at revered you'll be able to buy an avoidance enchant for your goggles, which will be well worth it since you'll be keeping them a long time. 2) If you haven't yet done the questline in Shadowmoon Valley that ends in killing Cyrukh the Firelord, try to find a group and get it done. Grom'tor's Charge is the best tanking weapon until King's Defender. Here's a GREAT thread on exactly your question, which goes into more details. I think it's brilliant because the writer is listing things that can be obtained in a finite amount of time (although with effort), rather than things like "run Shadow Lab until Shoulders of the Bold drop" which could keep you going until you're old and grey. Polar's Easy Pre-Karazhan Tank Gear List (TankSpot) Edit: I was just scanning through Polar's list and I see that with the 2.4 patch, a new tanking sword has been added as a Shattered Sun reputation reward (and only revered!); this looks like a great alternative to Grom'tor's Charge and is more accessible if you can't get a group to kill Cyrukh. --

Chaotic Good in a tiny, pointy package |
Wow, Viggen, thanks for that post! Pentkin is at 65 now, and I wondered what I should be starting to look for, as far as gear collection in my late 60's! Lots of good info =) --
