Cloth: Not just for Paladins |
quote: Originally posted by Rafiky: just to note something from earlier in the thread once you enter combat, hots will generate agro to whoever cast them. While they're not doing any healing it's like casting a buff and mobs don't like that. This functionality also changed at some point (and was never documented in patch notes). Back when RQ was learning BWL (can't remember exactly when this was, time-wise) HoTs cast out of combat definitely did not cause aggro to the healer even if the target subsequently entered combat. In TBC, however, regardless of whether healer and target were out of combat when the heal was cast, even if the HoT tick does no healing, it still causes threat to be generated by the healer. Not sure exactly when the change occurred (I generally erred on the side of caution and didn't allow HoTs to be cast prior to entering combat). My own story about this is when my guild was learning Vashj, our raid leader was worried about the way the MT's health dipped as he ran in on the pull. Raid Leader: Darckence, make sure the MT has a full set of HoTs up before the pull Me: Are you sure? I'm pretty sure that generates threat, and you won't be in range to MD her off me Raid Leader: Just make sure you cast out of combat, he'll be full health and you will be fine 12k aimed shot to the face during the pull :( It definitely causes threat :p --

The same exact thing happened to my druid recently during that initial Vashj pull. I went down so fast I didn't even know what hit me. >.< | |

Overall Lead of Floggins |
I remember when priest had to have a macro set up to whisper their druid partner that they were fading and the druid was going to die now....

I actually have the threat generated by druid HOTs on the druid sticky. I'm pretty sure I have them all listed, but might have only done one or two. If I didn't get them all - and if there's interest - I'll finish filling it out. --

I've been a resto druid and shaman and holy priest in end game raiding before and my priest especially, I hate paladins but working on one as a healer atm. Still love my priest the most, hands down. Although when I was Horde raiding as a resto sham was SO fun, almost gave Sowi a run for her money. |

Kre, I read that in detail a few days ago because I've been tanking a lot on my druid lately (the ability to make pugs NOT suck is a happy one) - found it fantastically helpful and informative. :) |

Furry healer supreme |
I can only compare healing with a pre-BC druid to a post-BC paladin. I prefer the paladin for 5 mans. Druid healing is more versatile, in my opinion, but my own death is swift. My paladin? He's damn near unkillable. Since I do a lot of PuGs, I need that survivability. It's got a little bit of a negative, though. I take more risks since I know I can usually survive them. It's bad when I take that risk and can't survive it. Paladin healing isn't super exciting. I prefer healing as another healer because I enjoy the complexity, but I prefer grouping as a pally healer because of the survivability. --

I think I've gotten pretty good at survivability as a priest, but it mostly involves not getting hit! I am teh squish! On the other hand, it does add to the complexity of a priest, which I love. There's a smaller margin for error. |
