Hand of A'dal |
Hello guys, I'm Paynefull as some of you might know i'm a good warlock ^>^. I'm destruction at the moment to raid, but i switch back and forth to SL/SL, so i have some affliction stuff and most of my destruction stuff i need a new helmet, gloves, pants, bracers, and a new robe. Any advice on which ones I should go for, and any raids i can go to where i might be the only one that need the piece? Thank you, Paynefull |

Well there are plenty of raids for you to sign up for. But I am curious to see that in auditing your gear you have only about 1% of +hit in your gear. Maybe I missed a memo and it is different for warlocks but as I always tell my mages +hit > anything till you hit cap. In approximate numbers the dps value of hit:crit is about 3:1 since a full resist is a complete waste of a spell. Then again maybe I did miss a memo about that TPS report, or not. --

While I can understand the emphasis of +hit in fighting raid bosses, for 5-mans, farming, and questing, where you're not always fighting 73+ mobs, all that extra hit is wasted. You don't need as much +hit to hit cap a 70 as you do for a 73. For this reason I swap +hit gear out for other dps buffs (crit, haste, etc) when not working on raid bosses. Sure you wind up keeping some extra gear around, but us casters have it easy compared to say, hybrids who need tank/heal/dps sets. -F |

Let's look at some numbers: From Wowwiki's Spell Hit Rating Guide we see the following base spell hit %: Lv l PvE PvP - 3 99% 99% - 2 98% 98% - 1 97% 97% + 0 96% 96% + 1 95% 95% + 2 94% 94% + 3 83% 87% + 4 72% 80% + 5 61% 73% Looking at your talent build, some +hit would definitely help you out for raiding. An affliction lock with 3/5 Suppression can get away without any spell hit when fighting mobs level 72 or less, but for a destruction warlock with 19 hit rating (1.5%) you have a miss chance of (6% - 1.5% =) 4.5% vs lvl 72 mobs and (17% - 1.5% =) 15.5% vs lvl 73 mobs (mostly, but not exclusively, skull level boss mobs). Now you cannot mitigate that last 1% so for lvl 72 mobs you'd be looking for (4.5% - 1% =) 3.5% more +hit and for lvl 73 mobs you would need (15.5% - 1% =) 14.5% more spell hit to reach the cap. |

That wiki link is worth a really close read. Its got a great table showing hwo much spell hit you need to max out spell hit chance on targets of a given level, also given your base hit. And it only reinforces my point that you pretty much only need the spell hit for fighting raid bosses (and other level 73 stuff). Assuming you get talents to derive some spell hit, for 72 and lower mobs, only a minimal amount of spell hit is required. For casters with +3% hit from talents (i.e. mage elemental precision), you only need +26 hit to cap on level 72 mobs. However you'll need 164 to hit cap vs level 73's and bosses. Ouch! -F |
