Greetings. I have a two part question! Please keep in mind through this that I have no interest in topping any DPS charts in any End-Game raiding! I'm just out to have fun :) Having said that! So! I've picked up my old mage and am dabbling. Right now, at level 20, she's Arcane build. It doesn't really make much of a difference at this point since she's only level 20ish :P But! I plan on staying arcane and going through with it! So! Can any one offer any suggestion to maximizing the fun in this? Second part! This mage isn't going to raid. I'm just playing around with her to have a bit of fun in PVP. Are there any suggestions for PVPing with Arcane? How about arenas? I've been having a load of fun in Arena, lately, as a druid healer. I haven't once come against an arcane mage. Is there a reason for this? Remember, my point is to have fun! However, maximizing my PVP enemies suffer would also be FUN. HALP! :P Thanks! --

If you really want to keep leveling as arcane, I'd recommend going into the fire tree until you get pyroblast, that way you can get big numbers every three minutes with an arcane power (AP), presence of mind (PoM) combo. As for PVPing with arcane, as I stated above, arcane mages can get big numbers every three minutes so they are also known as a glass cannon because after that, they don't have much they can do. Basically, if you're going against a healer team and you don't kill someone with the AP/PoM combo, you've lost the match. Also, nowadays people can see what spec you are in arena so if people are paying attention, they can dispell/purge/spellsteal AP/PoM. That's my two copper. |

this is it for a winner! |
The excitement of leveling Arcane is what you make of it. I don't find AM spam to be that glamorous myself, but having a large mana pool and nonspecific talents (such as Arcane Instability affecting any spell, rather than a single school) later on let you use whatever spells you like to keep yourself interested. As far as Arcane spec in arenas, the popular and successful specs are not heavy Arcane, rather AP/elemental (usually 33/28 or 40/21). None of the primary Arcane nukes are terribly well suited for arena: AM makes you a sitting duck for 5 seconds and leaves your control school wide open for lockout while AB is slow to ramp and mana inefficient and impossible to rotate. The lack of powerful instant casts -- a primary staple of arena combat -- forces mages to talent into an elemental school to maximize Fire Blast or Ice Lance damage. The talents in Arcane for arena are to maximize control and burst -- Improved Counterspell and AP/PoM are the highlights. |

Thanks very much for the advice! :) There are things I hadn't thought about :P I think I was under the impression that I could AB my target to death before they even left their starting positions! Ah well. Fire for PVP it is. I love the instastuns :) thanks again! --
