Retribution Changes in 2.4

Tier 4, Tier 5, Tier 6
Season 1, Season 2, Blue PvP

Check out that zero resilience, still. Season 3 or bust for PvP, alright! Strangely, Marshal's S1 b/b/b offset gear has lost its spelldamage for strength but S2 Scaled offset stuff still has spelldamage. Halaa and Auchindoun PvP rewards have lost spelldamage for strength.

The Blue-forge leveling gear has lost all of its spelldamage for strength. Too bad for the leveling prot paladins. The same goes for the Red Lawbringer recolor set, and the nonset epic pants from Heroic Durnholde.

None of the green quest rewards or the HFP spelldamage blue chest seem to have been changed. Blue quest rewards like the SMV gauntlets, BEM chest, and sadly the NS tanking helm have lost their spelldamage.

The Hammer of the Naaru and the Girdle of the Lightbearer remain unchanged.

PS that shitty BOE str/sd neck still sucks. At least it's worth TWO shards next patch.

I don't like the blue-lightforge losing the spell damage... where will holy paladins get leveling gear?

Basically going to have to go ret to level...

Yeah, but in theory retadins will be a bit better off.

I'm kind've torn, I'm leveling a paladin now and he's ret. But he'll be holy before 70, so...

We'll see how bad it is. I already find him a bit slow compared to a fury warrior, but I'm not leveling him to dps, so that's not a problem really.

I'm completely thrilled that ret pallies will be getting better stuff to level with.

The problem is, only the green stuff will have any damage/healing. Whereas the stuff that drops from instances? Will have the stamina and armor, but without the damage I use to kill things. I guess I"ll have to socket for spell damage now.

Oh yeah.

Season 1 and Season 2 ret gear has finally gotten some resilience. No word on Crusader's Battlegear but still quite a welcome change.

Retribution Paladins get a vast majority of their damage from AP (Seal of Crusader and Crusader Strike mostly factor AP in their multipliers); spell damage would be more appropriate for Shockadins.

So, in short: avoid spell damage. Getcha some Strength/AP/Crit/Hit.

My paladin was a shockadin.

I've hobbled together as best a ret set as I've been able, but it's not quite the same.

Ah, and here I thought we were talking about Ret. :P

So, are you switching back?

Yes, but I was, I think, understandably annoyed that my leveling set was now being made effectively unusable for my spec. As for switching back? Probably not for another 3 levels until healing gear starts showing up again.

I see what you're saying. The topicality of your comment lost me for a moment, but I'm with you now.

I'm wondering, did the change to Holy Shock offset much of the spell damage itemization? I haven't given it just a whole lot of thought, but I'm noticing that it's hitting pretty hard even in my full healing set. In fact, I've noticed that I'm putting out a pretty healthy amount of damage overall in my healing gear (though that's for a different topic).

I think the changes to retribution overall are good, but you're right; the itemization changes do adjust how you'd gear for some offspecs.

I saw a fairly noticeable decrease.

Since I went from around 400 spell damage/healing to around 200. Which significantly decreased(eliminated) my performance as a main healer in the low level instances.

I switched my pally to ret a bit ago but I couldn't take her out for test drives because my bank was way too full (since she's also technically my "guild bank alt") But after 750g she's got a huge amount of space.

I had terrible latency (1k) and probably subpar gear, but I noticed a weird thing. I'd start attacking a mob of the same level, my screen would freeze up, I'd get a spam of 4 digit numbers when it starts moving, and the mob would be dead. Which is very very odd for a mechanic.

On the other hand... I respecced prot, and was able to solo 5 of the marsh lurkers and the boss in that Zangarmarsh cave at the same time.

I just wish there was better pally prot leveling gear.
