Druid OT on Gruul

What is crucial to a druid wanting to build up their fast aggro ability? What's the most important thing? What should the gearset look like? I'm looking specifically at a situation like Gruul, if a druid wants to maintain spot #2.

Eh, druid aggro generation is alright when done decent, just get the tank gear and the aggro gen will come. I usually end up autoattacking some of the time on Gruul. Keep a stack of lacerates up, use it when not on the global cooldown, mangle every chance you get and only Maul when you're over 50 rage or so. That way you generate rage from the white damage attacks which you don't when you maul, should make it easier to keep spamming lacerate and mangle. Don't forget your FFF and Demo Shout and you should be fine. Just don't stand in front of him, stay behind or to the side to avoid parries/blocks :)

Earthwarden, 20-25% crit, and 1500ap would be a good place to start Gruul OTing, assuming you have the pure tanking stats to do it too

There are always issues with me being OT on Gruul because I unintentionally steal aggro from the main tank. If you are just wanting the bear to be an OT...the second md can go to the bear for the boost, but after that you can pretty much leave them alone so long as (as dagris said) the gear is there. If they fall a little behind in aggro drop a MD on them again to boost them back up. However, I would strongly advise against having a constant MD rotation including the bear. I was pretty sure Rucks was gonna bash me over the head when I stole aggro and couldn't give it back, even with them stacking MDs on him (Rucks = ECR tank).

Basically, a fully KZ geared bear will easily perform as a OT on Gruul - even without MD, so long as they mangle and keep a stack of lacerates up every chance they get and hit a maul as rage allows (again, as dagris said - about 50%). One thing that druids never have issues with, really, is TPS.

Oh - and make sure they don't have salv on. . .kinda serious. I wound up getting an addon called Damnation cuz I was always forgetting to click off salv when I suddenly had to tank. That, needless to say, made life interesting.

Dagris mentions FF and demo roar. I don't because I'm so used to imp FF in the raid...and warriors shouting. If there is another druid in the raid doing FF, they could let the bear do it if it's not the improved FF from the Balance tree. If you have a boomkin with impFF, please let the boomkin use it. It's much more beneficial to the raid to have the additional hit than it is TPS generation for the bear. The additional hit will actually assist not just the raid with DPS, but your bear and MT with TPS. As for demo, I'm used to letting the main tank do that for his own aggro generation if he's specced for the talented shout, since they do not stack.

Dagris mentions Earthwarden as a good gear start. I've often bemoaned the loss of def and expertise on my current staff, but I desperately need the stam :-(

If you have the two pieces from KZ for the T4 2piece bonus, it will really help you keep your rage up and going so you can use your specials more effectively - it's an unbeatable bonus. As well as some of the badge rewards. I, honestly, cannot remember what stat pool was like when I first started tanking him; but, I think it was ~1400, with 37% dodge and 29k armor and around 1900 ap with 67 hit and the 24 expertise from EW. Attack power is actually very conducive to TPS, as is hit and expertise. While I would not take these stats over mitigation, if I can get them with mitigation, I certainly try. If your bear is really great on stats, but short on TPS - have them use a flask of relentless assault instead of tanking supplements (ie. elixir of agi/fortification or the flask of fortification). It really does help with the TPS.

If you have a particular druid you are considering, feel free to have them talk to me (and I'm sure Dagris would be open to it as well) for a gear check if you want. If there are any issues with their gear set, I'm sure we could help point them to things that would help strengthen their stats and solidify them as a strong OT for Gruul.
