So, lately I've been playing the devil outta my warrior, Eaton. Our guild needs a KZ tank, Eaton gets to get his brains whacked out by undead. But, now that he has just about everything he needs tankin' wise outta KZ (cept that damn breastplate - bastard undead dragon), I've begun to feel the utter sorrow of looking at all that... cruddy DPS armor I have. I, .. I am ashamed *sob* So - what to do! Now, the thought has crossed my mind to pick up leather/mail - grab the token items out of KZ to get the DPS versions of the items. I've picked up a few of the previous that were just gonna be DE'd - the latter, I've had no luck on. And then it struck me. PvP? I guess that would work. I mean, Eaton's killed less horde than the rabbits of Goldshire. But, I can always give it a twist and see how it works out. Question one: Which is faster/smarter? Going into the battlegrounds and killing for honor - picking up the T1 set. Or, begging into a PvP Arena group and grinding for the T2 PvPset. What is your experience on which is faster - and which has less headaches? Question two: Am I waisting my time? Is DPS a possibility in PvE for warriors anymore? I think it is - I see Epo smashing in faces to often for it to be impossible. But, as it always has been, DPS warriors have always been gear dependent - and without the gear out there to do it at the KZ and under level, its about impossible for me to get done. Now - lets kick this darn forum back into action! --

*giggles* Is PvE dps an option for warriors? HELLS YEAH! ZOMG HELLS YEAH....WAY HELLS YEAH. DPS warriors are stupidly high DPS. *grumbles* I lubs thems...but damn they do hella lotta DPS and make me all grumbly and whatnot. --

Yeah, I've seen Epo totally go to town on Gruul. Mayhaps I should sneak a look at the old armory... see where that gear comes from ;) I'm just rather ponderous if it is possible at the KZ level. I can't seem to get poor little Eaton in a Gruul's raid. :( --

It's definately possible to get well dps geared without setting foot in a 10 man instance. Badge rewards. Some of the badge rewards are equitable or better than most of the stuff in SSC/TK/ZA, and blow away the Gruul's/Mags/KZ gear. The problem of course is how expensive they are in terms of badges, but man, they're good. No, you can't get amazingly geared without hitting up the 25 mans and/or ZA, but geared enough to seriously contribute as dps to one of those runs is definately possible. I'm a firm believer that every good tank needs a dps set that's good as well. If there's interest, I'll go through a more thorough breakdown of good dps gear to get pre 25 man/ZA for each slot. It's definately more complex than I've said regarding badge rewards, especially for some slots. Maybe I'll just do it, if work ever gives me time to think. --

Epo! Do KZ, get badges, and get the badge belt already! :P Okay, I'll put together a list and whatnot when I can Quin. I did a bunch of research into it and theory crafted it, but works busy at the moment, so it'll take a day or two to get it into a human-readable form. I'll make it generic as well, so other people can take a look. --

Quinn, as far as the Breastplate, it's really crazy but the Paladin Tank breastplate you get from Badges (75 I think?) is actually better for warriors than the Nightbane Breastplate. | |

I coulda had the badge belt 4 times over now. I just don't think it's as good as the Red Belt. And there's only a few items (non plate) that compare against it. So. I'm (somewhat) patient, and will wait.. The drop rate on the pattern is stupid and loathes me & Senz. Plus I don't have the other gem to socket it yet. |

As Ret, I've been in a similar situation. Arena: do it. Arena is not a huge time investment. One, or two hours a week for free T6-quality gear is pretty dang hard to beat. Hell, you could even tank in the S3 breastplate. Just getting in there and losing ten will give you points, which is a great way to get started. As far as Battleground PvP goes, it's not a terrible idea, but that depends greatly on your taste for BGs and how often you can get into PvP groups. If you dislike PvP and often end up pugging, stay far far away. The headache isn't worth the slow gain in that case. That aside, some of the PvP pieces, especially the Vindicator's offset gear, can be quite hard to match. If you've been running Daily quests, the Ogri'la boots and Skyguard trinket aren't bad at all. Armory's rep page is being a liiiiittle slow on loading, so I can't see Eaton's progress on that. If you've been doing them and are close, pull through and grab them. If not, it's a long time before you can get them and might as well go for other options. Heroics! There are some really good options in heroics. 2 pieces of Doomplate Battlegear, are excellent pieces that can last you well into epics. I'd suggest the Gauntlets and Shoulderplates, from H-BF and H-UB respectively. The Vanquisher's Legplates, from H-Mech, are another great piece with some staying power. Keep killing Karazhan! While there's sadly little dps plate from Kara alone, the boots from Nightbane are a great piece and the offset gear like rings and necklaces really help make up for it. If you can get the dps T4 pieces, go for them. 22 badges a run, as well, is a great plus. Badges badges badges: every piece is solid. The belt in particular is a great piece. They definitely cater much more to Fury specs than arms, due to the overload of +hit, but with sockets and attack power and ignore armor galore, they're excellent. Most are definitely on par with T5 pieces for fury specs. The last option that comes to mind is just hitting the AH. Most of the stuff isn't that great, but some pieces are pretty nice. Of course, this depends on your finances, but a few hundred gold can save you a week of PvP in some cases. The Black Felsteel Bracers, for example, can sometimes be found or crafted for fairly cheap and can let you save badges or honor to other slots. This is fairly basic stuff, but for just trying to figure out all of your options, hopefully this can help. |

Yeah - that pally breastplate is the bomb. I'm 6 badges shy of it right now, and if my guildies hadn't had God's own bad luck with the flu these past two weeks - I'd have it by now. Hard to do a KZ when your entire healy crew is plague infested. :) And why hadn't I thought of crafted gear before? I mean, the old crafted Lion helm was the bomb. I'll definitely check that avenue out as well! --

Don't be ashamed of wearing non-plate DPS gear in raids. You shouldn't be getting hit the vast majority of the time, so it doesn't matter. Much of the better (or best) DPS gear for warriors is leather.
