I'm a resto druid new to the raid healing scene and was pointed to the Elitist Jerk page on tips for druid healers (thanks Alissah!) http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t17783-druid_raiding_tree/ Anyways, creating healing macros was touched upon and I must confess that I have NEVER thought of creating healing macros. I'm a bare bones player and the thought of using macros intimidates me a bit. However, I did like the suggestion of creating what I call the "Oh Shit" button where you create a macro of Nature's Swiftness/Healing Touch for those tight spots. My question is how many of you have created healing macros and what are the pros and cons of such things? I plan on making an "Oh Shit" macro but am reluctant to make the macro(s) that targets the tank and off tank with specific healing spells. I dunno, that just seems complicated to me. Thoughts? |

I have all my heal spells on all my characters as mouseover macros. That way, I don't actually have to click on the desired person to heal, just mouseover them and hit the spell. To be more complex: If I'm moused over someone that's heal-able, heal them. If that fails, and If I'm targetting someone that's heal-able, heal them. If those fail, put a heal in my cursor so I can click heal. You can modify it to change that 3rd line to: If those fail, heal myself. I do that with my cleanse on my paladin: 1) Cleanse Mouse over 2) Cleanse Target 3) Cleanse Self --

Heal Sauce and Assplosions |
I don't currently use any macros on my priest, but I'm working on setting them up. I just haven't gotten them quite right yet. I'm not a mouseover healer, I'm a click-healer (I use Clique). Various key combinations of alt-ctrl-shift modify what's healed. None of it's macro'd. That said, what I'm looking to do as part of my macros, is to invoke my trinkets (currently only ribbon of sacrifice, but it used to be the LCP too). This is mostly because I'm shit about remembering to do it automatically on my own. I had thought about adding adding in Inner focus to that mix too, but I've since decided against that as I plan on using Inner focus to maximize the 5 second rule. So..I'm interested in advcie in this thread too I suppose. |

Does mouseover work just on the actual characters in the game (making gnomes harder to heal) or can it be used with raid frames too?

It could be useful to have a macro tied to the NS button for the heal that you would use, I don't think I'd tie it to a spec tank, but more to your target %T. I don't use a lot of macros to heal with, about the only one I use is a /stopcasting one so that I can stop a heal without moving... though there is a built in one for that [ESC].

Burn or Heal? |
I prefer not to use macros. I don't use them for magery and I don't use them for healing. I use Click2Cast for all of my healing spells and have no troubles doing well. If you want to have some faster response time (if that's what you're looking for with macros), I recommend some PvP.

the two i like are: /cast Nature's Swiftness /cast Healing Touch(Rank 13) they broke the NS/HT macro years ago but at some point it started working again, it's MUCH faster than clicking two different things ^_^ other one i have set up is great for personal "oh crap" moments: #showtooltip Battlemaster's Perseverance /cast Barkskin /use Master Healthstone /use Battlemaster's Perseverance they're all on different GCDs... gets you about 4k of instant healing + the 20% dmg reduction from barkskin. i've got another one for mother shahraz in BT that's just "/cancelform" and then casts barkskin -- i hit it first thing when i get FA'd so that i can stay in tree form for the fight without worrying about forgetting to hop out when it's time to run like hell :P |

On my priest I use stopcasting and mouseover macros. I just started using the mouseover macros a few weeks ago and have decided I really like them. I also use Grid so it is easy to move the mouse and press the key to throw a quick HoT, Heal or PW:S someone. It does take a little getting used to because you have to be pretty careful where you mouse pointer is at, off just a little and you end up healing the wrong person but a little practice takes care of that. Another useful thing is I don't shackle much being a healer but there are a few times when I am asked to do so, so having the shackle target targted for a quick reshackle and still being able to heal the tank (or whoever I'm assigned to heal) I find useful. And yes I know there are focus targeting macros and I could set that up as well, but as I say I don't do it often so have found this way to work out for me so far. |

I use Clique with my mouse, granted my mouse has a posibility of 9 different buttons that I can program through Clique {not including the Shift+Click exc...]. And I usually use Grid instead of SRaidFrames which does work very well with Clique if you just mouse over a character on your grid. This method really works well for me being a resto/tree druid and the only macro that I EVER have to use is my NS/HT macro for healing. Just a thought.

IDK my BFF Dulin? |
The only macros I use bind my useable trinkets to my Greater Heal and Circle of Healing, otherwise I'd never remember to use them...
