Do I have enough hit points to stay up, or am I dying more than most? Am I able to control my aggro easily or is my DPS so peaky I have to hold back? I would probably add to that : Am I having fun with my spec+time? Am I enjoying myself? Sometimes if you spend too much energy and time trying to min/max yourself to the satisfaction of others, you find that you burn yourself out for lack of actual fun. Getting good gear is always nice though :). At the end of the day, it is a game, games are meant to be fun. |

Not to say that fun doesn't matter, or anything, but when you come asking for gear and spec advice to be more effective, "do what's fun" isn't the right answer. "Max hit, and stop stacking int", is. | |

Just seems his mana pool is somewhat important to him to maintain, and unless he changes his mind on that on his own, changing that radically isn't going to add to his enjoyment of the game. Anyway, I didn't say "just do what's fun", I said "Don't forget to have fun". :) |

I have to agree with Arkhain. If you want to raid, then you need to max yourself out with the proper gear that has the proper enchants and gems. If you don't, then you are hurting the raid as a whole. If you are getting resisted alot, then get hit. Once you got that then go for crit or damage. Same goes for pots and flasks. Spell damage is way better than int.

If we go back to page 1 i didnt ask for spec advice we got a little sidetracked :) 20k is the goal still but as said somewhere in here Raid's need a certain standard of quality so i have beefed my hit like suggested.. im a few points off but not "horrible" as stated :) Lets get back to maybe suggesting things to pump my mana pool while not nerfing me with stuff like tunic of int. |

For what its worth, I have found it fun to keep two sets -- one with Max Hit, and one for max damage but hit cap on level 70-72 trash. The latter is useful for instances and farming and trash and what not. If you have 73 hit cap and are fighting lesser stuff, the 'itemization points' to get you to the 73 hit cap wind up being wasted. The tricky part is remembering to switch to +hit gear when you're actually fighting the bosses where you need it. -F |

I run an arcane/frost mage and have very little problems with OOM situations by keeping pots/emeralds/ evocates on rotation. As far as DPS goes yes AB is mana intensive but alot of you people are forgetting the other staple spell of an arcane mage. Arcane Missiles. This is a little more mana than full on AB however you are casting in 5 second intervals (w/o haste) and thus conserving a bit of mana. Also AM is a better choice until you get T5 or better gear. When I am raid buffed I have +1350 arcane with the +76 required hit for arcane spec. My AM's hit for anywhere from 900 - 1500 per AM. When I hit a clearcasting state my crit jumps to 60% and I'm critting all 5 missiles + the first missile of the next volley for 1500 damage. Thats per second. My WWS reports using this tactic show me hitting anywhere from 950 to 1100 dps dependant on situations. From looking over all the gear possible in the game your goal for 20K mana is unrealistic. You'll be fine with 1300-1400 mana and a wise judgement of what spells you want to use in your rotations. Also be prepared with twice the normal number of mana pots that you usually use and make sure your emeralds are full before any long encounter. Gilly/Bry |
