Blacksmithing specialty

I am leveling up a warrior for tanking and I am wondering if the armorsmith specialty in blacksmithing is worth getting for the chestpiece that you can make at 70. Or is there something else I can get pre KZ that would work?

The BP is amazing, particularly once you can upgrade it.

I don't regret dropping weaponsmithing at all.

As a follow up question, what are the desired stats for a tank? Is there one stat to choose over the other, say like defense, stamina, or armor value? What are the combination of stats that people try to maximize?

Basic checklist for warrior tanking:

Defense: 490+
(First and foremost, this is the priority)

Stamina/Armor: As much as possible
(stacking these two increases your time to live in the most efficient manner, as well as making you a bit easier to heal)

Block Value/Hit Rating/Expertise: As you can acquire them
(These increase your threat production, but are not as easily found on your pieces of gear. Expertise has the side benefit of reducing the number of bonus parry strikes you recieve from your opponents)

Additional Avoidance (Dodge/Parry/Defense):
(If your gear has this, then great, if not, I wouldn't go out of my way to acquire it, or gem for it. Completely eliminating your damage stream = less rage, and lower threat. For T4-T5 content, a reasonable goal to shoot for is 40-50% parry + dodge + miss)

Additional Stats (Str/Agi):
(again, if your gear has this, then cool, if not, don't worry about it. strength will give you more threat production and a slight increase to block value, and agility will provide a small armor bonus and boost to dodge, helpful, but not overly important on their own)

The Kings BP line is nice. The complete lack of defense and avoidance hurts early on when you're gearing up, but the armor and stamina values are very nice. If you can get the second stage Bulwark of Kings and make up the defense eslewhere, it will easily last you until Nightbane or Magtheridon give up their epic tanking chests. This isn't to say you don't have other options or that the BP of Kings is necessary; the Breastplate of the Bold has a nice balance of stats, and the Vindicator's Hauberk is loaded with defense.

If you haven't chosen a profession yet, or are planning on switching anyways, Engineering is another option worth looking into. The Tankatroic Goggle is an excellent headpiece that's easily on par with the T4 helm. On top of that, double Rocket Launchers or Poultyizers can provide a huge stam boost from your trinket slots, which can be quite convenient as stamina trinkets are few and far-between.

I avoided using the bulwark of anchient kings until i got it to the best upgrade. Now I wear it until i can find a tank chest worth wearing over it. the STA and armor on that thing is huge and the +hit makes your taunts less likely to be resisted as well. I think i will only replace it for either the Tier 4 chest or MAYBE the ZA one. Though im doibtful on the ZA one to some degree.

The Bulwark of Kings beats out blue choices cleanly. Defense is a ubiquitous enough stat that once you've done the heroics necessary to collect the nethers, you should have access to enough def gear to where the 400 armor and 20~50 stam gain is definitely worth it. The first tier is where it's really iffy, where you're still trying to get full blues and 490.

Also, the ZA chestpiece is equal to the Tier 5 warrior breastplate. I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Okay.
Ark is right...the ZA chest is very good. I won't be replacing it with T5 just because it would be such an insignificant upgrade. I only use my BP of Ancient Kings for DPS now since both it and the ones aforementioned have equivalent hit.
