The following links are to what I consider nearly necessary to operate a successful raid, particularly with regard to learning encounters. They are actively supported, regularly update, and do not have a large overhead. 1) Natur Enemy Castbar http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/downloads/details/2786/natur-enemycastbar/ Provides a configurable, active view of casts by mobs and players in a very low bandwidth, low processor form. This also allows communication amongst players in a group so that those at range can "see" what spells the melee see, for example. 2) KLHThreatmeter http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/downloads/details/4204/klhthreatmeter/ Allows not only you to see others threat generation, allows others to see yours. Hugely important in parties and raids if you want to be situationally aware. Far better than saying "I don't know WTF happened". It's not necessary for solo play, but is very nice if you have a class that has a pet, particularly one that you like to have tank for you. 3) CT_Raid Assist http://www.ctmod.net/download/11/ or 3b) oRA2 Best to use Wowace updater at http://sourceforge.net/projects/wowaceupdater to install and maintain updates. (Just check the oRA2) package in this very nice application. Also requires Ace2 to be installed. I prefer oRA2 due to better support and less overhead. A number of other very nice addons are installable and maintainable with WowAceUpdate. Some I'd suggest looking at are BigWigs, AutoBar, Decursive, FuBar (and it's sub packages), and Xloot. Most raid leads will require #2 and #3a or 3b. p.s. I can personally verify installing these on 7 different computers, (both pc's and macs), regularly updated them from the sites noted, and have never encountered a virus or spyware from such. |

Daphyd, what function is it of CTRA that makes it so necessary to raiding?

I use ora2, but it lets raid leads see the status of raiders, It allows a main tank display for raiders to see what to target, it allows advanced raid warnings from boss mods for key fights to be broadcast, it allows votes and enhances general raid communication. Frankly, it's been so long since I haven't used it, I may have missed something. Others? |

you need to add bigwigs or la vendetta or something similar to ora2 since that's what you use for boss timers etc.

Theres a lot of other features too, like doing resistance checks, reagent checks, durability checks and a status of long term raid recovery cooldowns, like battle resses and soul stones. Basically, it gives your raid leader a lot more information about the state of a raid. |

Long term recovery countdowns in particular are a big deal ... when the raid lead knows at a glance how long it will be before battle rez is up and whose BR / SS is up, they can make much better decisions about what to do when, whether to engage the boss yet, etc. BigWigs is a necessity though, it makes it really easy to tell when the boss is doing something, or about to do something, that you will have to react to. It will put a big blinkenlight when Ony is about to do a Deep Breath, etc. |
